Kinsbourne Explorer Scouts (KES) is one of the six Explorer units in
the Harpenden and Wheathampstead Scout District. Explorer Scouts is the section with scouting that caters for young adults aged between 14 and 18. And offers a range of activities and challenges including working with the local community, expeditions, social and cultural activities.

We meet at the 9th Harpenden Scout hut in Kinsbourne Green on Friday nights usually from 8pm to 10pm.

The unit is run by a team of adult leaders who work with a committee of explorer scouts to develop the plan of events and outings. The adult leaders will also work with the explorer scouts to enable them to achieve some of the challenges that explorers will present them, such as the Chief Scouts Platinum Award, Chief Scouts Diamond Award, Queens Scouts award, and many others.

There is also the possibility to take part in the many county and nationally organised events and challenges such as Peak Assault, 40 Mile Hike, the Chiltern Challenge and many others. As well as working with organisations that
have outreach programmes such as shelter, the Samaritans, etc. There are also opportunities to get involved with district events such as Gang Show.

The emphasis of the unit will be to challenge and develop the members in social responsibility and physical awareness, in order to enhance the life skills they develop in other spheres of their lives.
Explorers is designed to be flexible, so its members can join in with what they want, when they want, where they want. KES intends to provide a Scouting programme that is fun and full of challenging activities, where badges and Awards can be gained
